Amroha is a city in north-western Uttar Pradesh state in northern India, located north-west of Moradabad, near the Sot River. There are two different theories of origin of its name. One derives “Amroha” from the Sanskrit word “Amrovanam, the region of mangoes” another is that the name is compound of “Aam” (mango) and “Rohu” (a Kind of fish).
On the other hand some theories say the name was derived from the word of Raja Amarjoda. Raja Amarjoda also called as Amaryodhan. His grandfather name was Suyodhan of Mahabharata, of the KuruBansi dynasty, was the ruler of region Amroha in 479 BC.
